Choose A Scenario Type
Before you open the scenario settings, decide which system path the version is meant to test. GridGap separates AC, DC, and mixed AC/DC scenarios so the editor can show the right inputs and results.
Start from the appliances
Look at the loads in the version first. If the loads are AC only, choose an AC scenario. If they are DC only, choose a DC scenario. If the version contains both, choose a mixed AC/DC scenario.
The app checks this when you create the scenario. A DC-only scenario is blocked if AC appliances are present. An AC-only scenario is blocked if DC appliances are present. In that case, remove the mismatched appliances or choose a mixed AC/DC scenario.
Choose solar only when it belongs
Battery-only scenarios are useful when the modelled period is being carried by stored energy and later charging. Solar scenarios are for options where solar is part of the working system during the modelled period.
That gives you these six choices:
- AC - Battery + Inverter
- AC - Solar + Battery + Inverter
- DC - Battery + Distribution
- DC - Solar + Battery + Distribution
- AC/DC - Battery + Distribution
- AC/DC - Solar + Battery + Distribution
Use guided setup or blank settings
Use the guided route when you want the app to walk you through setup. Add the appliances, choose the scenario type, create the load groups, enter worst-case usage hours, and then use Continue to Scenario Settings. GridGap will show that the scenario is ready before opening the starting settings.
Use Start with blank scenario settings when you already know the scenario inputs you want to enter. The blank route still asks for the scenario type in the blank scenario modal, but it does not apply guided starting defaults.
Keep comparisons as versions
If the scenario type change is really a different option, create a new version rather than overwriting the current one. That keeps the old result available while you test the new path.
