Advisory Solar String Guidance Explained

String guidance is there to make the panel-count answer more usable. It helps the app turn a raw energy result into something that can be grouped into sensible strings.

Why it stays advisory

GridGap uses panel watts, Vmp, Voc, and PV voltage-limit guidance to suggest a workable layout. That is useful for planning, but it is not the same as final PV design. Temperature-corrected string checks, exact equipment limits, and manufacturer approval still sit outside this result.

So the app is not claiming that the string layout is finished. It is giving you an informed starting position.

What the string fields are telling you

Panels per string is the suggested series count. String count is the number of parallel strings. Estimated string Vmp and Estimated string Voc give you an indicative view of operating and open-circuit string voltage under the current simplified model. PV voltage limit is the planning limit the app is trying to stay within.

The Indicative string guidance notes in the Solar tab usually explain why the app landed on that arrangement.

Why the installed panel count can rise

The app first works out a raw minimum panel count from the energy demand. It then rounds the installed count up where needed so the final array divides more cleanly into full strings.

That is why Installed panel count can be higher than Raw minimum panel count without anything being wrong. The extra panels are often the price of making the array arrangement cleaner.
